Myongji Hospital holds ‘2020 New Horizon Research Festival'

Myongji Hospital kicked off the “2020 New Horizon Research Festival” for a three day run at the hospital in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, on Wednesday.

"Myongji Hospital will hold the festival at the New Horizon Healing Center on the fourth and fifth floors of its complex B of the hospital under strong quarantine guidelines in line with level 2.5 social distancing guidelines," the hospital said. "To this end, the opening and closing ceremonies and symposiums will be broadcasted in real-time through YouTube."

The hospital will also limit the number of attendees, it added.

Participants of the festival will include various research institutions in the hospital, such as the New Horizons Cancer Research Institute, Alzheimer's, microbiome, rheumatology, natural substance, Nano-IT convergence, and bioengineering research centers.

Other cutting-edge innovation centers, such as the AI ​​Big Data and MJ Virtual Care Center, and affiliated biopharmaceutical companies, such as MJ Cell Bio, MJ Brain Bio, and CancerRop, will also participate in the festival.

The three-day research festival started with the opening ceremony at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, followed by an invitational lecture on the topic of "Protein Development Trends Based on Protein Structure" by Professor Song Ji-Jun of Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, and other lectures by IT Convergence Research Center Director Lim Jae-gyun, Professor Lee Seung-Won Lee of Myongji Hospital AI Big Data Center, and MJ Virtual Care Center Director Oh Seung-Min.

On Thursday, following a lecture by Professor Lee Sang-heon of Dankook University on the theme of "discovering biomarkers in the era of -omics and developing functional materials based on natural products," Professors Jung Young-hee and Kim Min-ki of Myongji Hospital will hold a symposium on "Gut-brain-axis."

On Friday, the hospital will hold a symposium on "anti-cancer immune cell and complete the festival with a closing lecture by Myongji Hospital Chairman Lee Wang-jun.

"The festival is an opportunity to confirm the achievements of pursuing creative and breakthrough innovation in building an R&D platform based on the open innovation strategy," Myongji Hospital Director General Kim Sae-chul said during the opening ceremony. "We expect that the festival will create a new model for a more practical and productive research-based hospital in the future."
