‘Nearly 2/3 of cured Covid-19 patients have three or more symptoms’
Myongji Hospital reported Friday that 65 percent of Covid-19 patients who had finished quarantine and visited the hospital due to aftereffects had more than three symptoms.
A survey conducted by Myongji Hospital has found that more than half of patients released from quarantine who visited the hospital had at least three aftereffects.
The hospital said so based on its analysis of sex, age, symptoms, number of symptoms experienced, and the number of days required to visit the clinic after quarantine by 1,077 patients who visited the hospital’s long Covid Clinic from March 21 to April 11.
According to the survey, among 1,077 people who visited the clinic, 382 (35 percent) were male, and 695 (65 percent) were female. By age, those in their 50s made the most visits with 217 people (20 percent), followed by those in their 40s (18 percent), 30s (14 percent), over 70s (10 percent), and 20s (9 percent)
Cough was the most common symptom of aftereffects with 31 percent, followed by general weakness (13 percent).
Following the two most common aftereffects were bronchitis (9 percent), respiratory abnormality (9 percent), esophagitis (8 percent), gastritis (7 percent), and sputum abnormality (7 percent).
The clinic also referred 178 cases to specific departments due to poor results of basic examinations or observations requiring continuous management during treatment.
“Most of the patients who visited our clinic complained of two or three or more complex symptoms,” Myongji Hospital Covid-19 Sequelae Clinic Director Ha Eun-hye said. “It is important to treat the aftereffects through collaboration comprehensively, and if severe, to follow up with a specialized department to continue appropriate treatment.”
The hospital in Goyang, a bed town north of Seoul, designated by the government as an exemplary medical institution because of its trend-setting response to Covid-19, also expanded the treatment space and treatment sessions for the Corona 19 Aftermath Clinic on April 4.
It also operates the Covid-19 Subacute Care Unit (CSU) for patients who need inpatient treatment.
