Myongji Hospital opens Covid-19 test center at Incheon International Airport

Myongji Hospital said Tuesday that it has opened a Covid-19 testing center at Incheon International Airport Terminal 1 (T1)-West side.

Myongji Hospital Chairman Lee Wang-jun (seventh from left) and other staffs and guests dedicate a Covid-19 testing center at Incheon International Airport Terminal 1 on Tuesday.

The hospital expects that with the new Covid-19 testing center, travelers using Incheon International Airport T1 will be able to quickly test for Covid-19 without going through the trouble of going to the Terminal 2 inspection center.

Before opening the T1 Covid-19 Testing Center to the public, the hospital had conducted rapid reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) and antigen and antibody testing to airport and airline employees and provided them with the results since Sep. 8.

Myongji Hospital’s Covid-19 testing center, located in Incheon Airport T1 subway station and short-term parking lot H, operates from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day.

“For tests using the rapid RT-PCR diagnostic kit, the test center can issue a result confirmation letter within three hours,” the hospital said.

The hospital stressed that the rapid RT-PCR diagnostic kit used at the T1 test center is a product that has received official approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and is a method to shorten the time and frequency of gene amplification using DNA polymerase.

The hospital said, along with the existing general RT-PCR test method, most countries use the technique to determine confirmed cases.

“Our hospital built the test center to have a high level of exterior and facilities suitable for the world-class Incheon International Airport while considering the convenience and psychological stability of users,” Myongji Hospital Chairman Lee Wang-jun said during the opening ceremony.

He added that in line with the needs of each country abroad, the hospital would perform tests using antibody tests, antigen tests, and rapid RT-PCR methods and do its best as a Covid-19 specialized test center that enhances the convenience of departing passengers.

Lee stressed that the hospital plans to introduce a kit that can check the RT-PCR test results within an hour to reduce airport users' waiting time in the future significantly.

From October, the center plans to provide a mobile application service through cooperation with the Incheon International Airport Corporation and KT, allowing test center reservation, inoculation, receipt, and Covid-19 test digital confirmation.

The test cost is 126,000 won ($107) for the PCR test and 66,000 won for antigen test for Koreans, and 174,000 won and 84,000 won for foreigners, including the examination fee, test cost, and issuance of negative confirmation certification.

The hospital stressed that there would be additional charges on weekends, public holidays, and weekday mornings (7 a.m.-9 a.m.).

People who want to use the hospital’s test center can make reservations by phone (1533-2030), the test center’s website (www.mjhairport.com), or the Incheon International Airport Corporation website (https://www.airport.kr).
